I have some more time today so here's a lil bit about my first week in Paris. Monday was my first day of school. I was still exhausted and getting up was hard. I helped Florence get the kids ready for their day and I was surprised how fast the morning went because we had some much to do! Both kids needed to be fed and dressed and out the door by 8:30am. After a whirlwind morning, it was my turn to get ready. I was not feeling well at all. I woke up feeling terribly nauseous but toughed it out and helped Florence. I walked to school and things were getting worse. Even though this is what I got to see on my way.
Incroyable, non? It's so beautiful! I still havent figured out how to get to the little area that you can walk underneath it, though. It's in the center of a huge roundabout. About 12 car lanes across. It's insane and the cars drive so crazy! The motorcyles just come outta no where and go where ever they want! So as soon as I figure that out I will take tons of pictures!
So I got to school and seriously felt like I was going to be sick at any moment. I finally got someone to talk to me (being the first day of a new session, lots of people were waiting) and they told me where my class was. I sat down and the teacher starting speaking in French. The girl next to me asked me if I needed paper (in french) and when I responded in english, she said, oh you speak english! She then told me that the teacher will be saying phrases and we are supposed to write what he says down. Ya, there's no way I can do that. After only writing down a handful of words, I finally waited til there was a pause, raised my hand and said I needed to go talk to someone. I grabbed my stuff and went back to the reception area. I was still feeling awful and this time, found a chair to sit down in while I waited. As I waited I noticed that everyone was speaking french-the students amongst themselves and to the administrators. Wait a sec! Isnt this a language school where we are supposed to learning French? Not already fluent speakers! I was getting really frustrated and tired of waiting and so I just left and walked back home. I got home and slept for awhile. Not a great first day!
So I still need to get someone to help me get into the right class.
Oh, I forgot to mention this! My bedroom is upstairs, not connected to my family's flat. My first night here I noticed this little patio area outside my door. It's locked and you cant go outside but out this little window LOOK AT MY VIEW!
Natalie,
ReplyDeleteHang in there-- you WILL catch on, I promise! Total immersion is a beast at first, but it will help you become fluent more quickly! YOU CAN DO THIS!
And, I'm dying at that view? That is practically every girl's dream!
Maintenant, etudiez-vous!
thanks for the encouragement Courtney! Im praying that day by day it gets a lil bit better!
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing! I hope you feel better soon! Your pictures are so pretty! I hope you know I made a google account just so I can respond to these posts! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh Natalie, you will be fine. I'm sorry you had a hard first day, I know things will work out. Just keep your chin up. I know you'll get in the right class and then once you start learning more of the language you will feel right at home. :)
ReplyDeleteLauren-Im happy that you made the account! I feel special! I wish you couldve come to my party! Andrea-This school is a total problem! I cant get anyone to talk to me in english and it seems they dont care and just have to tough it out. lol
